Letter coming home today! :)

February 17^th Week:

Welcome to a {hopefully} 5 day week!  Things keep getting lost in translation over the snow days, etc., so here are a few reminder notices:

1.      Please read the blog for updated information.  I typically try to write 3-4 times a week.  Monday afternoons and Tuesday afternoons I have committee meetings and staff meetings, but I still try to get the homework or gist of the day written.

2.      Weekly Packets – students are still receiving weekly packets. Most of the time this is individually based to help your child. PLEASE be checking these packets as you see your child working on it. 

3.      Class President – Our class has elected Jared as the class president. He will be running Class Meetings.  He is currently passing an Olympic Torch (paper of course!:) ) around to the ‘student of the day’.  Ask your child if you’ve received this honor yet!

4.      Planners & Behavior – students should be showing you their planner daily.  It should have the learning outcome written in the subject box OR the homework for the night.  Students should also be writing down their daily behavior in the yellow box.  This is where they land on the Clip Chart each day. 

5.      At Home Programs – some students are earning extra credit at home! Is your child? Programs include: Lexia, Success Maker, Kahn Academy, Splash Math, online Reading & Math sites (given at conference time).  If you need to know what your child can be working on, please let me know!  Just write it in the planner and your child receives extra credit in that subject!

6.      Showcase Night – Feb. 27^th 5-6:30   We will be showing you an awesome Prezi presentation on our Math Workshop as well as taking you through a couple of the rotations.  The kids have worked HARD on this! If you are not going to be able to make it, please let me know and I will be able to email you your child’s Prezi presentation after we finish them.

Learning Outcomes for the Week:
Math: I can add and subtract mixed numbers. I can change mixed numbers to improper fractions. I can complete word problems involving fractions. I can simplify my fractions.
Reading: I can explain first and second hand accounts in fiction and non-fiction passages. / I can determine characteristics of poetry and prose.
Writing: I can use a dictionary and thesaurus to help my writing. I can complete my scientific fiction writing piece.
Science: I can determine why we have shadows.  I can determine and explain moon phases.
SS: I can explain KY government and identify the people in those positions.

HW for TONIGHT -
1. finish reading from class
2. adding fractions page from math
3. Math Weekly Packet due Friday
4. Practice multiplication facts if still need to test on Tuesday

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hi! Thanks so much for all the positive comments about the change time of the party! I appreciate it! I know it's so hard to accommodate everyone but I tried to do what was best for the kids! Party days are also a little crazy as the kids are excited.  I wanted to keep it today as to not wait until next Friday and have an 'extra' hyper day added! :) Thank you for understanding!

We've had a great week despite this crazy weather! The kids are really doing well getting back into the swing of things.

Next week we will be doing some review, but we got through a lot this week!

On Monday I will have a full update of the learning outcomes for the week!

But for tonight, ask your kids about PREZI that we learned this morning and have a great Valentine's Day!

Friday - !00th Day of school

We had a great day today! The kids are so sweet and are so ready to get back to learning!! We accomplished as much new and catch-up stuff as we could!!

Michael made us so proud this morning at the Spelling Bee! A fellow 4th grader won for our school!

Reading Packets can be turned in on MONDAY without any penalty! I know Thursday was sort of a surprise day off! After Monday it will count against their grade.

Students WILL be having HW this weekend. I almost never give HW over the weekend, but the kids are excited about it! Please help them remember they have HW! And let's pray for us to not have a 3-day weekend!! haha :)

Below is a copy of the HW just in case since our routine is different and a child may forget.

Watch at least one Winter Olympic sport to answer the following prompt.

Which sport did you choose? Imagine you are one of the lead reporters of this sport.  Retell the race/performance in 3^rd person.  Include real details and good word choice!

*If you choose to bring in Valentine’s, you must bring one in for EACH student in our class. We have 21 students and 2 adults (Mrs. Burton, Mr. Bill). Each child will need to create his/her own Valentine Box at home.

*Our walkway is very nasty going to the building! I ruined a pair of heels yesterday! (haha) so I just wanted you to know so you can help your child find some 'old' pairs of shoes to wear to school for a while until the snow and mush clears.  I just don't want them ruining a pair of good shoes!! :)

Hi!!

Hi Parents!  Welcome back to HOPEFULLY normal school days again!

We did get a lot done in a little bit of time today! :)

A few important points I wanted to make sure you read -
1. Science Fair Boards are due FRIDAY, but kids can bring them in TOMORROW to practice presenting.
2. Our newest and FUN Book Challenge is up and running! The bracket will be sent home tomorrow and instructions. It's going to be SO AWESOME the other 4th grade teachers want to jump on board, too! Ask your child about it! I WILL need some help from you taking your child to the Public Library to check out some books...but your kids are so EXCITED about it!!
3. Friday we will have our KY Regions test. Students completed their study guide today and have it to practice.

FYI -

Students are also allowed to wear PJ's and bring a Santa hat (they begged??!!). If anyone has The Polar Express DVD, could you bring it in for the morning? Thank you!

Students should be reading over the break! It's a long one and I don't want them to regress too much!! :) Car time? Reading Christmas books? Have a family reading game night?!

SS: I can compare the KY Regions according to land use and natural resources using an iPad.

**MAP MATH testing is this week! We usually don't take Winter MAP until January, but because of the primary move to their side of the building, we need to go ahead and begin testing.  I have started the goal setting for the kids this AM and will get the rest of their goals set tomorrow. PLEASE help your child do his/her best by providing a healthy breakfast Thursday morning and making sure they turn OFF electronics and get some good rest the night before!! :)

Learning Outcomes for the Week:
Math: I can find factor pairs for whole numbers 1-100.
Literacy: I can explain events in scientific and technical texts using specific details from the text.  I can write my own procedural text.  I can read with good accuracy.
Sight & Suffix Words - yes, clear, equation, yet, government, -dom, -phone

SS: I can explain resources that are important for KY.
