Wednesday

FYI:
*Wednesday Folders
*Chik-Fil-A Night is Thursday! Let's win the party again!! :) :) - Remember to write "Burton" on the bottom of your receipt or bring the piece of paper from school and write "Burton" on the bottom.
Fluency Folders:
This week students are focusing on Reader's Theatre Scripts (plays). PLEASE help your child in remembering to read this each day. It should take 5-10 minutes! They can read to you:
*in the car on the way to practice/church/home from school
*while you are cooking dinner
*the last 5 minutes around the dinner table
*right before bed
*during commercials of your tv shows
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make this a priority. Most of the kids are excited to read to you and get scored.  IF you just don't have time for this, remember, I am asking you write me a note and let me know so I can set up an early time in the mornings for your child to come read to me daily to get this completed.
****Yes, kids are still reading their own books for Literacy Letters. NO, I don't think this is too much reading! Remember my philosophy on HW ~ I don't give busy work, I don't give a ton, I give items where the kids can SHOW OFF to you! :)

Science LO: I can determine why we have seasons.
Activity: Science Court! We were able to become the detectives again and watch a trial, use our groups with each other's knowledge, and then determine the guilty!  Students did a great job on this!
No HW

Writing LO: I can use RUN and RAP to answer Extended Responses.
Activity: Woo Hoo! I was so impressed with all the kids who were able to answer the RUN question in the planner!  Today students also learned RAP to now answer the questions better.  Students worked on ER's in small groups and then on their own.  Look forward to your child telling you about the actual "rap" session that the 4th grade teachers have planned for Friday! ha! We will have the BEST ER answering kids around! :)
**BLOG Question for Planner - Tell your parent what RAP stands for. Have your parent write it in the planner for a Pop-Up Lunch!

Reading LO: I can compare and contrast a greek myth and a roman myth.
Activity: Students worked with 2 stories, Persephone & Demeter and Daughter of the Earth.  Students realized they were both about telling us why we have seasons, and ways they were similar and different.  Students worked on finding the structure of each text as well as depicting the characters and symbols in each.
No HW

Math LO: I can compare decimals. I can read decimals fluently. I can convert fractions to decimals.
Activity: We had several learning targets today during math. Students worked in small math groups and rotated between me, Miss Kirk, or a game.  The students handled this very well and it was good to let some groups stay on a certain topic they were having trouble with, move along with other groups, or move very forward!
HW: there is a decimal written in the math box in the planner - kids need to write it in word form and fraction form

*Looking Ahead:
**Black History Program: Tuskegee Airmen Thursday morning at 8:00
**Black History Program: School Wide 1:15 Friday
*Next week is Miss Kirk's Solo Week
*Monday is Science Test
*Next Thursday is tentative Decimals test
