Thursday

We've had one fun day today!

The kids really enjoyed the field trip and they were great! It was so neat to see the book, War Horse, being acted out with the horses. It was so cool! I'm so glad we've been reading it together in class. It was neat to talk about.  The kids will get to bring home their edition of War Horse tomorrow!  We got back a little later than expected, so after we enjoyed our picnic lunch, students went to about 20 min. of Art and then we came back to finish our Horse movie. Friday!

We had a great day today!  Thank you SO much for the yummy Native American foods for us to try! The kids loved it!!

We started the day off with our last Guidance class of  the year.  Then we shared some of our animotos from our Famous Women projects.  Next we worked on our simple machines from yesterday's science lessons. We learned about different types of simple machines along with some complex machines.  A great website to add to your home computer is:  http://www.edheads.org/activities/simple-machines/index.shtml
We've been playing this just a little at school. If your child has time to get on the site, let me know in the planner for extra credit!

After science we read some out of War Horse. It's getting good now! :)  Then we began SS. Kids first had fun writing their names with the Cherokee alphabet. Then they enjoyed some Native American treats while watching an educational video on the early tribes of KY.

After lunch bunch and recess, we got to go watch the 5th grade Beta Club induction! It was so great - hope to see lots of my students in it next year!

We finished the day with some more reading of War Horse, writing UK poems with our Writing Buddies, and then learning a Native American dance (and laughing at me! haha) from the Chickasaw tribe.

Have a good weekend & Go CATS!

Today we had a HUGE discussion on being respectful. Although there are only a handful of kids who needed to hear this, I thought it would be a good talk for everyone as we are nearing Spring Break.  It is NOT fair to some students in my room to always have to hear the disrespect I am given or other adults/students are given. So from now on, when this occurs, the child will be written up and sent to the office. Our time is too precious to waste!!
