Science - Today we discussed rocks and their properties.  Several students brought in some of their rocks from home or collections.  There were some very cool rocks.  We shared them all and then discussed different properties of rocks.
HW: None

Reading - We discussed text connections.  There are three types: text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world.  We made text-to-text connections from different books from the same author.  The vocabulary words this week are:
1. nuisance       2. metallic     3. humongous     4. fidget     5. grit
6. versatile      7. vague      8. mysterious      9 quiver      10. luminous
HW: Study for test tomorrow

Math - We reviewed our test today.

Science - Today we reviewed Earth Materials.  We did an experiment to see which soil would hold the most water.  We used gravel, potting soil and sand.  It was a close tie between sand and potting soil.

Reading - We discussed text connections.  There are three types: text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world.  We listened to a story and made two text connections.  The vocabulary words this week are:

Math - We reviewed graphs and completed a worksheet and workbook page in class. Test tomorrow.

Writing - We had our Chorus Program.  The 4th and 5th grade chorus did a fantastic job!  They have really been working hard!  Kudos to Tabby and Katelyn. Great Job!!

****It is Thanksgiving break!! Enjoy the 5 day vacation!!!  Have safe travels and full bellies!!

Science - Today we reviewed erosion!  Our sand castle was eroded and then flooded!  We got a LOT of rain today!!
HW: None

Reading - We did a compare and contrast activity.  After reading a story and completing a Venn Diagram as a whole group the students were paired and then completed one with their partner.  They were very insightful and found many different similarities and differences. 
HW: None

Math - We reviewed line graphs and completed a Thanksgiving graph as a whole group. 
HW: None

Writing - We did not have writing today due to our pizza party.

A note from Mrs. Burton ~

Hi everyone!! :) I hope you are all doing well!

A few weeks ago I got to come and see my wonderful students!! It was so great! I miss them so much! I hear they are doing a good job with Mrs. Brady and I am so happy. 

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving this coming week and you are able to spend quality time with your family.  I will be in soon to visit the kids again! I've enjoyed seeing some of you at church lately! :)

Harper is doing wonderfully.  She's started sleeping more {praise the Lord, haha} and is really aware now.  I just love her sweet smiles each day!

Reading - We learned the components of non-fiction.  We then completed an assignment identifying characteristics of fiction, non-fiction, play and poetry.  We did not have time for Lit Groups.  The vocabulary words this week are:

**Hope Drive is going.  There was a flyer sent home in the Wednesday folder.  We are collecting items for the Hope Center.  Men's toiletries, socks and gloves.  There is a box in the room for the items.  The class with the most donations will win a class party.
**It was another Fun Friday.
**Thank you to the Veterans that came in for lunch today.  The kids were really excited to show you off.

Social Studies- We had our class election.  Our class officers are: President - Peyton Martina, Vice-President - Mason Curtis, Secretary - Kenneth Henderson, and Treasurer - Charlie Habash.  Everyone did a great job.  We also watched a piece on Veteran's Day and completed a quick review.
HW: None

Reading - We had DEAR time and also time for study island.     
HW: None 

Math - We worked in groups.  While rotating groups everyone created a Tally Chart by rolling dice and collecting information, we also played multiplication WAR and then met with me in small groups. 
HW: None

Writing - We finally got to meet with our reading buddies and help them do a writing piece for their class book.

Science - We learned about earthquakes and vibrations.  We did a few activities and made some observations.

Reading - We got our drama scripts and parts.  The students read their plays as a group.  They will perform them in front of the class tomorrow.  They are to read the play tonight. They are not required to memorize their lines or buy a costume.  We then read and worked in our Lit Groups.      Our vocabulary words are from the plays and poetry.  They are as follows:

Math - We had small group to review estimation and rounding.  We also worked on multiplication.

Writing - We worked on a poem during writing today.  Each student chose an animal that began with their first or last initial and researched and wrote a poem about that animal.

Social Studies:  Our current unit is Government.  We held primary elections.   Our candidates are are follows: 
President - Tabby, Hannah, Peyton and Lily
Vice Pres. - Jack, Mason, Sydney and Greg
Secretary - Kaelyn, Kenneth and Katelyn
Treasurer - Eric, Cayden, Charlie and Maddie W.
The students are encouraged to bring posters or campaign materials to school.  No treats or items may be given out as those are considered bribes. Election will be Friday.
