Friday - No PJ's!
EEKK! No PJ's on Tuesday!!!!!! It's picture day! hahahaha
Friday!
FYI:
*PICTURE day is TUESDAY!!!!! :) This will be the individual picture
*PAW Party! We've earned 15 PAWS, so the class voted on movie/popcorn/pj day on Tuesday! ha! We will now be working on earning 20 PAWS! We will watch a G movie during our lunch time. If you have any G movies, please send in! Also, if you'd like to help out with popcorn, that would be great! I am hoping to have popcorn and bowls for Tuesday. Please let me know if you wouldn't mind donating one of these items! :)
*HOMEWORK: Yikes! We are having some trouble with this! In my room, homework is DUE THE NEXT DAY unless otherwise noted. Please help your child learn this responsibility!!!!
Review Friday:
On Fridays, our schedule is a little different than Mon-Thur. This is due to pulling small groups ALL day long! Mostly, the small groups will be based on MAP skills (I will know after we take our test) and to work/challenge kids on what we've been working on in class. We will also get to help 1st graders read on Friday's, too!
**Vocab.: Usually, our vocab. will be every 2 weeks to spend more time on word knowledge. This week, I wanted to test the kids after a few days to make sure everyone is in a group that will challenge them! :)
Math: Today we took our Place Value test.
Reading: We used our skills we've been working on and re-told a short story - these are hanging up in the hallway!
Writing: Students worked on grammar skills and sentence structures. We also worked on our opinion pieces.
SS: We reviewed compass rose skills and relative location vocabulary.
Science: Students did not switch for science today; however, we used text skills to read about plant structures and functions - what they are currently working on.
Have a wonderful 3 day weekend with your family!!

Next week we will begin our 'real' groups and get our new leveled books!
HW: practice for vocab. tests tomorrow - students need to know how to spell the word AND how to use it in a sentence (not just give me the definition as the sentence!!!!)
Writing:
I love our anti-bullying opinion pieces! The kids are doing such a wonderful job with these! We completed our second paragraph on our first drafts.
No HW

Reading:
The kids came in wonderfully today! Today we worked on nouns (common and proper) and then worked on referring to details in reading texts. We used an informational article and discussed details in the article that were used to show the writer's opinions. This led us to several whole group and small group discussions on our own opinions. We hit 2 standards with this lesson! (if you ever want to see the standards we are focusing on, you can check our highlighted list in the classroom!) We also practiced reading silently with our library books and went over the procedures of the do's/don'ts of this!
Writing:
Today we continued writing in our writer's notebooks. We discussed the 4 types of sentences so that we will know how to read texts better and writer better sentences. Students did a great job on these and we played Quick Draw to practice!
HW: IF students did not complete class work - they need to write 4 different sentences about one picture (they have this in their writer's notebook)
Math:
Today we reviewed place value. We went over the places and values of these numbers. We also reviewed standard form, word form, and expanded form. Students worked with technology to complete this standard as well as in small groups with manipulatives.
HW: ask your child how to play Quick Draw with the 3 forms!!!
Science:
Students met with Mrs. Maldonado for the first time. They have written in their planner about today's lesson!
Social Studies:
Today we talked about where we are in the world. We discussed the continents (several kids could not name these!! We will work more on this!), countries, city/state, and community. Students worked on a banner to show this.
HW: finish illustrating the banner.
