Monday!

FYI:
No School Friday!
We are trying to collect lots of DIMES! :)
Miss Kirk is doing her swap week this week - we've welcomed Miss Janecek from ACE to our classroom this week!
**New FLUENCY FOLDER texts this week - all are leveled Non-Fiction and on science

Science LO: I can determine the weather patterns.
Activity: Today we studied more with the radar - we saw that it was going to be raining ALL day long because of the movement of the weather! :)
Students also began their projects as meteorologists!
No HW

SS LO: I can name the states and capitals.
Activity: We practiced more with our states and capitals.  I found a fun game to help here:

*for the test: students will need to place the states on a map and will need to match the state and capital together
HW: KNOW those states and capitals!

Writing LO: I can use transitional phrases for my expository text.
Activity: Together we read an article on tornadoes where we picked out the different text features we saw and wanted to emulate in our articles.  Some students also worked on finishing up their research.
No HW

Reading LO: I can identify text structures to help my comprehension.
Activity: We began reading new science texts that are leveled for each group.  The texts have weather information in them.  All but one group is NF.  Students read with an adult in the group and discussed text features and the structure of the text.
**NEW Fluency Folders - text is leveled and non-fiction science
No HW

Math LO: I can determine place value of a decimal.
Activity: We began whole class with more learning on the expanded form on a decimal as well as finding the decimal from a fraction using a calculator.  We played a few rounds of Quick Draw, too!
Next, students were pulled to 3 different small groups each with a teacher-leader.  The small groups worked on: Decimal Rounding, Decimal Comparing, Decimal expanded form.  To keep the groups to 3-4 kids, the other students began working on their study guides for the decimals test.  The test will be this week - Wed. or Thursday. I will let you know after today!
